Mine Subsidence Insurance

Areas of Pennsylvania, as well as other states, have been mined for coal. When the coal was removed, many of those mine shafts were abandoned. Over time, the earth moves around mines because of the failure of the support system within them. A standard home policy does not provide coverage for the damaged caused by mine subsidence. Pennsylvania established a mine subsidence insurance fund in 1961 to help homeowners.
